Here's why we don't accept insurance.
Low reimbursement rates: Insurance companies only reimburse us for a fraction of the cost of a session, which can be less than the cost of a haircut. Thus, we would rather just discount our services (See the income-based sliding scale here.)
Time-consuming: As a way to keep our overhead low our practitioner performs ALL aspects of the business management. Stopping to submit paperwork and answer questions from insurance representatives for each patient is time-consuming and typically a waste of everyone's time.
Delayed payments: Insurance companies are quick to deny and slow to pay. The typical payment can take months. In rare instances, it takes years to get paid, they hope we stop fighting and just accept their denied claim.
Credentialing: The process of applying to be in-network with an insurance company can take over six months. And it is a separate process for EACH company.
Benefits checking: Each insurance company has a different process for checking benefits. This means that if we mistakenly accept you as a client thinking you are covered by your insurance, we never see a penny. To protect our small business we choose to avoid the whole scenario.
Control: Practitioners prefer to be in charge of their own practice. Do you really want a non-licensed individual deciding what you need and not the person you paid to make that decision? Or a company telling you that you can only have 6 sessions covered because they expect you to be well on their arbitrary schedule?
Income-based Sliding Scale
We know that asking for help-both financially and emotionally-can be difficult. We believe that everyone deserves access to quality care, regardless of their financial situation. Life’s challenges don’t discriminate based on income, and neither should access to support. That’s why we offer an income-based sliding scale, designed to make our counseling services more affordable for those who may be experiencing financial hardship.
Our sliding scale is our way of showing that we care about you and your well-being, not just as a client, but as a person. By adjusting our fees based on your income, we aim to provide you with the support you need without adding to your financial stress.
Application: We understand that talking about money can be uncomfortable, so you can apply for the sliding scale free and confidentially online. Start here...
Income Verification: To determine where you fall on the sliding scale, we may ask for some basic information about your income, such as pay stubs, tax returns, or other financial documents. This step is simply to ensure that we are offering you the fairest rate possible based on your circumstances. See the fee schedule here...
*Minimum session fee $35.
